21 Things You Didn't Know Your iPhone Could Do

Be an iPhone ninja with these 21 awesome tricks:
Your iPhone can do all sorts of magical things that you probably aren't aware of. Here's a list of some of the iPhone's coolest hidden features.

      1. Shake to undo

Make a mistake while typing or editing a picture? No worries! Just give your phone a little shake—like you're making a martini— and it'll ask you if you'd like to undo the action. Cheers!

      2. Recharge your battery faster by switching to airplane mode

.Switching to airplane mode turns off battery-draining wireless and cellular access, allowing your phone to recharge up to twice as fast.

      3. Get Siri to read your emails aloud for you

Just say the magic words “Read my email” and Siri will read all your messages aloud to you. If you like, you can tell her to read only your most recent email (“Read my latest email”) or just those from a specific contact (“Do I have email from Mark?”).

      4. Find out which planes are flying overhead

Just ask her: “What flights are above me?” Or you can be even more blunt and just say, “Planes overhead.” Boom! She’ll bring up a list that shows all the flights above you at that moment. Why you would ever need this I have no idea, but it's pretty rad anyway.

      5. Teach Siri how to pronounce words

The best part about this is that it makes you feel smarter than Siri. Whenever Siri mispronounces something, just tell her, "That's not how you pronounce [BLANK]" and she'll offer you alternatives. You can then select the best one.

      6. Automatically turn off your music with the timer

If you like to doze off with music playing like I do, you can use the timer to automatically turn your music off so that it doesn't play all night. In the timer app, select “When Timer Ends,” then scroll down and select “Stop Playing.” The Timer will automatically turn off your tunes after whatever length of time you set.

      7. Scroll through videos and music at half, quarter, or eighth speed

This one is super useful. When you scroll—or as Apple calls it, "scrub"—through a movie or a song, the default mode is high-speed scrolling. This sometimes makes it hard to find the exact spot you want. But you can control the rate at which you scroll. To do this, hold down the dot—or "playhead"—in the scrollbar at the top of the video screen (tap the screen to display the scrollbar if it isn't visible) and slide your finger straight down without lifting it. This allows you to change the scrubbing speed to half-speed, quarter-speed, eighth-speed ("fine scrubbing"). Once you've selected the speed, move your finger left or right (without lifting it) to scroll.

      8. Take a photo with the volume buttons

Sometimes it's hard to snap a picture by touching the capture button—if you're wearing gloves, say—in which case, you can take the shoot by pressing either the volume up or the volume down button. Problem solved!

      9. Take multiple photo bursts all at once

If you hold down the capture button, your phone will take a series of rapid shots, or bursts, in quick succession. This is especially useful if you're photographing a moving subject. Later you can scan through all the bursts and pick your favorite ones.

      10. Reveal timestamps on text messages

Drag the text bubble to the left and you'll see a timestamp for every text message. Among other things, this will show you just how much time you waste texting.

      11. Use your iPhone as a level

Need to hang a picture? In the Compass app, swipe left and your iPhone becomes a perfect level.

      12. Make your iPhone speak selected text

I like to use this one randomly just to freak people out. First you have to enable Speak Selection. To do that go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speak Selection and turn it on. A "Speak" button will now appear whenever you select text. Bonus: you can also choose different accents (would you prefer an Aussie iPhone?) and even control the speed at which selected text is spoken. Trust me, you can waste a lot of time with this one.

      13. Start a new sentence just by double-tapping the spacebar

Whenever you're typing and you need to start a new sentence, just double-tap the spacebar and it will automatically add a period and a space for you.

      14. See a more detailed calendar

When using the calendar app, turn you phone sideways (into landscape position) and voilà, you'll get a more detailed look at your sked.

      15. Lock autofocus and exposure while taking a picture

It can get annoying when when you're trying to take a picture and your iPhone camera keeps refocusing and automatically adjusting the exposure. But you can lock in the focus and exposure by pressing and holding your finger on the screen until you see a yellow square blink twice. A yellow icon that says “AE/AF Lock" will appear at the bottom of the screen letting you know that you've locked in the exposure and focus. It'll stay that way until you're done with the shot.

      16. Add web suffixes with a single tap

It took my a while to learn this one—and I wish I'd known about it sooner. When you're typing in a web address, just hold down the "." at the bottom of your keyboard, and a menu will pop up showing a list of web suffixes (.com, .net, .edu, etc.)

      17. Quickly access your email drafts

This is one that very few people know about. Next time you're using your Mail app, hold down the Compose icon in the lower right corner of your screen, and it'll quickly jump to a list of your drafts. I use this feature all the time.

      18. Customize vibrations

This will let you change the vibration pattern for alerts and notifications. Go to Settings > Sounds > Ringtone > Vibration > Create New Vibration. You can also customize the vibration pattern for individual contacts by following the same procedure from your contact list. This way, you can tell who's calling or messaging you just by feel.

      19. Create custom keyboard shortcuts

Say there's a certain word or phrase (or a password) that you use a lot. You can create a shortcut for it. Go to Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Add New Shortcut. Enter a word or phrase and the shortcut you'd like to use for it. Every time you type that shortcut, the whole word or phrase will magically appear. You can even create shortcuts for emoji!

      20. Create a passcode with letters (not just numbers)

By default, your iPhone asks you to type in numbers when you create the passcode that unlocks your phone. But you can change this setting. Go to Settings > General > Passcode Lock and turn off “Simple Passcode.” You will be prompted to change your passcode, and a full keyboard will appear onscreen instead of just the number pad. This keyboard will pop up every time you unlock your phone.

      21. Set your phone to emit light flashes for alerts

Instead of having your iPhone ring or vibrate when you get a call or a message, you can have it emit an LED flash. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then scroll down and turn on “LED Flash for Alerts." Warning: it's REALLY bright!
Be sure to share these hot tips with your friends by clicking below. They'll thank you for it.

Now, Just Type ‘Find My Phone’ In Google Search To Know Your Phone’s Location!

Android is one of the master pieces that Google has created for the users. It has became one of the most used mobile operating system and has seen a frequent updates in no time. If we compare the first final version of Android with the present day’s we can see that how far it has travelled now.

Google announced yesterday, that they have implemented a new feature in their search engine that should help netizens to find their smartphones when they are misplaced or lost. Google had earlier introduced a functionality called  ‘Android Device Manager’which actually served the purpose of locating your Smartphone without having any access to it. However, till now  this functionality was not integrated with Google Search, which now has been!
Almost all mobile manufacturers like Samsung, Sony, Motorola etc make use of Android Device Manager so that the user can find and wipe the data from the device if it’s stolen. Along with this it served other purposes as well. Like if you are not able to find the Smartphone in home then you can just ring it from desktop and locate it easily under bed or like that odd places.
Now, the main problem here is that this feature can be accessed by logging into manufacturer’s site or Google account itself. But today Google has officially made this feature easy to access with the help of Google search!
Now, you can find or locate your Smartphone just by typing ‘Find my phone’ in Google!
if you have not configured your phone to allow Android Device Manager to use location data, you will see a message like this (as shown above). If you have already given access to location data, the search query will locate your phone (you may need to sign into Google account that is active on your phone).
This is what you will see in Google Search then. The name of your phone, the time when phone was last located, along with the location in the maps. It will give you accuracy level as well.

If you have misplaced your phone, just click on “Ring” and it will ring for 5 minutes, so you have time to locate the phone.
In the event that your phone is lost or stolen, you can choose to remotely lock your phone and even erase the entire data residing on the phone so that no one can access it.
This feature may be god-send in certain situations. Do a trial run with you phone and let us know if it worked for you!!

Ikea’s wireless charging furniture is coming in late spring

A few years ago, wireless charging was a very expensive niche feature. Even the most basic charging pads would run you $50 to $60, but things are much different now. You can get a cheap, Chinese-made Qi pad for $10, and Swedish furniture giant Ikea is getting in on the fun with a full line of lamps, nightstands, and pads that support Qi wireless charging.
The Qi wireless charging standard is built into devices like the Nexus 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6. Other phones have replacement back covers that add Qi wireless charging. With a supported device, you just set it down on the charger and it receives power via electromagnetic induction. It’s a little slower than wired charging, but it is pretty convenient.
Ikea will soon offer standard wireless chargers that you sit on your desk or nightstand, as well as furniture with the technology built-in. The devices were pre-announced a few months ago, but now we have prices and an approximate release window. On the integrated furniture side, there are a pair of nightstands, a table lamp, a desk lamp, and a floor lamp. These range in price from $60 for the smaller nightstand to $120 for the floor lamp.
You don’t get wireless charging built into the entire surfaces of these pieces of furniture, but there’s a small insert in the surface with a “+” to show you where the Qi coils are. The dedicated chargers come in single ($28) and three position ($65) varieties. If you’re not fully set up for wireless charging, you can get a Galaxy S3, S4, or S5 back plate, or iPhone case from Ikea that will add the functionality.
Ikea will also sell you wireless charging inserts that plug into some of its existing desks and nightstands that have cord management holes. Don’t have anything with the right hole? Ikea will happily sell you a hole saw (seriously) that attaches to a drill so you can make a hole. There’s no exact release date for these items yet, but late April is the target.

TRAI reiterates plan to provide 600 million people 2Mbps broadband by 2020

TRAI on Friday reiterated the plan to have a minimum speed of 2Mbps on broadband for 600 million users in the country by 2020 as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Digital India initiative. The plan also envisages that a speed of 100 mbps will be made available on demand. TRAI's latest recommendations suggest that by 2017, 175 million broadband connections have to be established.

Additionally, broadband access for all village panchayats through a combination of technologies was supposed to be started in 2014 and progressively reach all villages and habitats by 2020.

However, as these targets were on the basis of the national telecom policy, some of them had not been achieved.

TRAI made these recommendations in a paper titled "Recommendations on Delivering Broadband Quickly: What do we need to do?"

The paper reveals some disturbing facts. For instance, it says, "India ranks 125th in the world for fixed broadband (BB) penetration with only 1.2 per 100 inhabitants having access to fixed BB; the global average is 9.4 per 100 inhabitants."

With regards to household penetration within developing countries, India is ranked 75 with only 13 per cent penetration. It has also been pointed out that India falls in the category of the least connected countries that fall within the low IDI group.

Some other important highlights of the conclusions include the suggestion to "align spectrum bands with globally harmonised bands to achieve interference-free coexistence and economies of scale."

Also, there are points that propose auditing of the spectrum allocation, a roadmap for spectrum management, consumer awareness programs for the latest information on EMF radiation that stems from towers and time bound clearance for the installation of towers.

Lastly, the conclusion also states that cable operators should be allowed to be function as resellers of ISP as they can take advantage of their cable network to provide broadband.

TRAI is currently in the middle of a debate around the concept of net neutrality. In the case of net neutrality, its stances has been slammed by web users and net activists.

E-commerce to Give Way to M-commerce in 2015

Mobile commerce is set to be the next big wave in the digital commerce space.

Less than two weeks ago, Myntra made a ‘not-so-surprising’ statement— it will shut down its website by the end of the year and focus only on the sales through its mobile app.

Various reports also pointed out that the decision could be because Myntra is already getting as much as 60 percent of its sales and 80 percent of its traffic through its mobile app. For the fashion e-tailer, it certainly was a bold move. At the same time, Myntra was only trying to ride, what seems to be the next wave in the ecommerce space—mobile ecommerce.

And it’s not just Myntra. Snapdeal announced last year that it drives close to 50 percent of its sales through mobile, which is a sharp spike from the 5 percent it witnessed the previous year. The ‘Bansal Brothers’, Flipkart's founders have already made it clear that they see themselves as the “mobile e-commerce company of the future”. Most of the e-commerce giants have already made significant investments in this area.

Mobile, thus, clearly seems to be overtaking web transactions in new markets like fashion. In India, it seems to be an obvious choice for shoppers for various reasons.

Here are some numbers. A report published by Forrester Research last year throws some favorable numbers. India is the second largest mobile market in terms of subscribers after China with 900 million mobile subscriptions as of March 2014. Interestingly, 92 percent of internet subscribers in India access the internet via mobile phones and wireless dongles. And mobile is in fact the only way to access the internet in many smaller cities in India—making it one of the most lucrative target for online retailers.

Though mCommerce currently accounts for a smaller portion of the overall retail market, its potential for growth seems to be unmistakably high. According to Gartner, 30 percent of traffic for e-commerce sites come from mobile and tablets. (as of October 2014).

“The heavy influence of mobile devices and wireless Internet has led to a mobile mind shift among Indian consumers — the expectation that they can get what they want in their immediate context and moments of need. This trend is particularly evident in retail; today’s consumers are increasingly using their mobile devices to accomplish a variety of shopping-related tasks online,” said Katyayan Gupta, analyst, Forrester Research. If all the factors become favorable, 2015 will be the year of m-commerce
